What does Oppo think about the 1st gen Frontier/Navara?
In the world of compact pickups, the S10 is the only thing cheaper. They can’t tow for shit, but how are they for a basic runabout?

Engines are generally durable but dog slow.

But how big is the cargo bed? Because if it can’t tow and doesn’t have a decent bed, then what’s the point except styling?

Tough little truck, the seats are horrible and the interiors are plastic fantastic, but hard things to kill. I find the rear seats in those crew cabs to be a joke, but for smaller people they’ll work.

I remember back in school driving over a mountain pass in wyoming with my then pimping chrysler sebring (don’t judge) with one following behind with our ski gear. Once we got off the mountain, we had to wait about 20 minutes for them to catch up. I seriously thought they had either broken down, or driven off the side of the mountain. Slow is an understatement

Wait, people don’t buy other cars only for styling?

Smaller as in around the 5 foot range or less...I’m pretty average height wise (5' 10") and even for me, my knees were jammed into the back of the front seat

As long as nobody has to use the back doors to get into those back seats. Maybe it’s fine for a kid, but I required a shoehorn to get in without cracking my knees on either the pillar or door.

Frontiers are decent trucks, Tacomas are better, but Frontiers are still good..

Oh sure, and that’s a valid reason. That’s what I meant by except for styling. I only make fun of that reason if someone sacrifices safety or core functionality for it.

Underpowered but geared well. If you can find one with a manual or a supercharged one you’d be in good shape. Just make sure the timing belt is changed on time.

Hi, my husband has an 04 with just over 200k on the clock. Aside from a bit of ugly clear coat issue (and no working A/C) it’s a pretty solid truck. He has the base of base models king cab (manual everything, no fold down seats, 2wd, 4-banger), and it’s served him well enough for: 1. Cross-country road trip, 2. Long-distance commuting (though that’s a rarity nowadays), and 3. General construction necessities (especially trash hauling in the bed). He likes it though he really (I mean,
realllllllly
) wants a Tacoma.

This is pretty much a universal truth about small trucks. If you don’t want full size, your back-seat passengers better be willing to suck it up
